Eva Longoria Parker says she prefers the “frumpy” version of her Desperate Housewives character, Gabrielle Solis, because “it’s more fun”.

Speaking to Australia’s Men’s Style magazine, she said: “It’s way more fun to play frumpy because then you can focus on story and character, as opposed to always having to look great.”

Talking about how she was called “dark, ugly one” by her sisters as she was growing up, Eva said: “I was one of four girls, and my three older sisters all look alike.

“They all have light skin, light eyes and light hair.

“I was the only one with black hair, dark eyes and dark skin.

“I thought I was adopted for ever. I still think I am. My mom laughs about that.

“She says, ‘Your dad is so cheap. Do you really think he took a fourth child on?’

“I grew up as a ‘prieta fea’, which means ‘dark, ugly one’.

“I did not blossom until college.”
